I still have an older PC that I just love. It does what I need it to do. The CPU fan died, so I bought this cooler & fan to replace it. It works better than the one that was on there. It is a slot 1 PIII with an adapter and a socket 370 PIII installed. I've overclocked it and it runs cool. (PS: I have modern PCs too. I just love working on and using this old one)

If you have an old Socket 7 or Socket 370 CPU system you will probably need one of these fans at some point in time. (Especially for Socket 7 CPUs as these did not have built-in thermal monitoring/protection features so a failed fan will cause damage)
In my case I'm replacing the fan on some old Intel Pentium 100/AMD K5 systems and this works for me. Be sure to doublecheck your old CPU fan height clearance before ordering - some motherboard/cases may have the hard drive mounted above the CPU in which case height clearance may be an issue. The height on the heatsink & fan is approx 41mm from chip to top of fan. The fan is labelled as a ball bearing fan so it should last awhile.
Heatsink & fan comes with 3-pin motherboard connector, adapter for Molex hard drive/cdrom style 4-pin connector as well as a single use pack of generic heatsink compound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good processor, be mindful of the watt requirement., August 18, 2010

This review is from: AMD CPU HDZ955FBGMBOX Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz AM3 125W Retail (Personal Computers)
The processor is good, and runs great, but be mindful of the watt requirements of the processor. Even if your motherboard documentation states the motherboard supports that processor model 955, there are 2 versions of it. The 125W and the 95W processor. My motherboard only supports the 95W processor, so this specific processor worked, but very slow. In the end, I traded it with a friend for a slower processor that runs at 95W.

That was my mistake (so no negative ratings), and if you plan to buy this processor, check your motherboard website for the watts supported by the motherboard.

Other than that, the processor runs great, and is very fast. At least it runs great on my friends computer, and he likes overclocking. He's really happy with 'my' purchase at least.

So the product is good, but be mindful of the watts required and do not make the same mistake as me.

5.0 out of 5 stars 7.3 (out of 7.9) on Windows 7 Benchmark Test, October 6, 2010
This review is from: AMD CPU HDZ955FBGMBOX Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz AM3 125W Retail (Personal Computers)
I am impressed with this processor at this price/performance range. It scored 7.3 on the Windows 7 benchmark test on bootup of a fresh Ultimate Edition install (not overclocked). It's running at a cool 39 degrees celsius with the Zalman aftermarket cooler (my experience with AMD OEM cpu coolers is that they are loud and barely passable so I am leaving it unopened in the box). I highly recommend this processor with any of the equipment below which I would happily award 5 stars when paired with it:

I like AMD. This processor is the best I have had. Even though I've only built two systems, this processor was everything I wanted and more. I will say that when I first put it to use it seemed to do the same amount of work as my dual core, til I looked online and read how to unleash the beast. Now I convert whole movies in under ten minutes. Which took 30-40 under my dual core. Works through everything I want it to.

3.0 out of 5 stars these are dual core NOT quad, October 25, 2011
This review is from: AMD A4-3300 APU with AMD Radeon 6410 HD Graphics 2.5GHz Socket FM1 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail (AD3300OJGXBOX) (Personal Computers)
This is low end desktop apu.
If you are going to spend time on building a new system, don't waste time on this and get at least quad.
Resale value of quad will be way higher plus even A8 is power efficient so, you will not be saving electricity during low performance/idle usage.
All apu require new ddr3 and motherboard....

A6 $100
A8 $140

When you skip this dual core cpu and get a Quad apu, you are functionally getting medium graphics card plus double the core for just few more bucks.

So you ends up with $350 lowest end dual core or $370 A6 or $410 A8 system.

Update:
Amazon price for A8 drop to $130 then spiked to $199.
Mean while price for this drop to $65. So price differential is becoming more reasonable for the value.
However, price fluctuation due to stores not carrying them due to temperary not in stock so I expect to see $130 or below prices for A8.
I would still say this cpu is NOT... Read more
